  • For this year's LER Book Discussion we will read Minnesota author Leif Enger's first novel, Peace Like a River, which leads us on a journey with the Land family through Minnesota and North Dakota as they grapple with tragic events, God's work in their lives, and miracles. We invite you to join us in reading this engaging and thought-provoking story.

LER readers are always thoughtful and prepared - you won't want to miss this book or discussion!

    For teens:

This year’s teen book will be All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot. This book follows the adventures of a veterinarian in the Yorkshire Dales during the 20th century. Through various true tales about Herriot’s life, we learn of the joys and struggles of rural life and the complex bonds between humans and animals.

  • On Friday afternoon, attendees have the option of attending a Small Group. These are groups of 15 or less and are casual discussions on a wide variety of topics that the leader is passionate about. Participants may choose a small group to attend when they arrive at the retreat. You can read about the different topics to choose from here.

  • New for this year, we are offering the option to join a Continuation Group. The goal for these smaller groups is to help you continue the inspiration of the Living Education Retreat after you leave Lake Koronis by meeting with other attendees for discussion and encouragement. Each Continuation Group will have between 8 to 10 members and will meet twice during the LER to clarify goals and resolutions emerging from the retreat. Then each group will meet virtually three times over the following six months to share progress and challenges towards implementing those inspiring ideas. The option to participate will be offered when you register.

We need not say one word about the necessity for living thought in the teacher; it is only so far as he is intellectually alive that he can be effective in the wonderful process which we glibly call “education”.
